‘They must be doing it for ulterior reasons’: Jensen Huang says AI leaders are ‘irresponsible’

Jensen Huang, the chief executive of Nvidia, is taking a hard line against the growing chorus of artificial intelligence doom sayers within his own industry. In a recent interview with CBS, the head of the world’s most valuable company dismissed predictions of an AI apocalypse by 2030 as completely baseless and fundamentally irresponsible. While acknowledging that general safety concerns are valid, Huang insisted there is zero percent chance that these technologies will lead to the end of the world, suggesting that those pushing such extreme narratives are not grounding their fears in actual science.

The clash puts Huang at odds with other prominent figures like OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who have both suggested that the pace of development might need to slow down to allow for better safeguards. Huang didn’t hold back when discussing these rivals, hinting that their public alarms might be driven by hidden agendas. He urged listeners to read between the lines, suggesting that instead of seeking stricter oversight, some industry leaders might actually be trying to shield themselves from existing legal accountability through a cloud of manufactured panic.

For Huang, AI safety is strictly an engineering challenge rather than a regulatory one. He argued that companies should focus their technical resources on verification and reliability without inviting government interventions that could stifle innovation. This perspective aligns closely with current political sentiment expressed by President Donald Trump, who recently rejected calls for heavy AI regulation and pledged to maintain American dominance over China through a newly proposed AI Force and a designated czar.

While former researchers and thousands of employees at top labs continue to warn that racing toward superintelligence is akin to gambling with human life, Nvidia remains positioned as the essential provider of the hardware fueling this boom. As soon as any restriction slows the rollout of advanced models, it impacts the very ecosystem Nvidia supports. By framing the disaster talk as an irrelevant distraction, Huang is signaling that the industry should move as fast as possible provided it doesn’t compromise basic operational safety.
