Fidelity Trims Its ETF Portfolio by Cutting Specialized Tech and Real Estate Funds

Fidelity Investments is streamlining its product offerings by shuttering five of its exchange traded funds later this month. The move affects several niche strategies, specifically targeting the company’s disruptive finance, medicine, and general disruptors funds, along with those focused on the metaverse and real estate investment trusts. This decision follows a regular review process where the firm assesses whether its various suites of strategies still align with current investor demand and shifting market trends.

Investors holding these specific funds have a limited window to manage their positions before the portfolios vanish from public exchanges. Trading for most of the affected funds on Nasdaq, and the real estate fund on Cboe, is scheduled to end after the market closes on November 12, 2026. After this deadline, Fidelity will stop accepting creation orders, meaning investors must sell their shares by that date if they wish to exit through traditional market channels.

Once trading ceases, the company expects to fully liquidate the remaining assets around November 19. During this interim period, Fidelity plans to shift the portfolios into cash or other highly liquid assets to facilitate final payouts. Shareholders should be aware that once the November 12 cutoff passes, there may be no active trading market available for these shares until the formal liquidation is complete.

Despite these closures, Fidelity maintains a massive footprint in the ETF space with more than 80 different products currently managing roughly 189 billion dollars in assets. As a privately held giant overseeing trillions in total administration assets, the company views these cuts as part of a broader effort to refine its catalog and provide more effective outcomes for its global client base.
