Outrage for Profit: How Scammers Use Islamophobia to Lure Crypto Victims

Researchers at the Center for the Study of Organized Hate have uncovered a cynical new strategy being employed by international scammers on X. By flooding the platform with AI generated images and provocative posts targeting Muslims, these bad actors are leveraging existing social tensions to build massive audiences. These posts often depict fabricated scenarios designed to spark anger, such as fictional demands from Muslim families or insulting comparisons involving animals, frequently gaining thousands of likes and shares from users who believe they are supporting patriotic causes.

To lend credibility to their operation, many of these accounts masquerade as supporters or affiliates of prominent political figures like Donald Trump and JD Vance. While they claim to be based in the United States, technical data reveals that most are operating from overseas, particularly across Africa and South Asia. Once a user follows an account based on its anti Muslim rhetoric, the narrative shifts seamlessly from cultural grievances to financial panic. Followers are suddenly warned about an imminent collapse of the global banking system and urged to protect their assets through secret investments.

This bait and switch tactic leads victims away from X and onto encrypted apps like Telegram, where scammers can operate with greater anonymity. In these private chats, imposters pretending to be closely linked to the Trump administration push fraudulent schemes involving cryptocurrency or mysterious entities like the Quantum Financial System. They warn targets that traditional currencies will soon become worthless, pressuring them to move their money into fake accounts or registration sites under the guise of emergency financial planning.

According to Raqib Naik, the founder of the research center, this trend highlights a grim reality where hate is treated as a commodity. The scammers recognize that outrage acts as a highly effective hook for growth, allowing them to scale their reach rapidly before pivoting to theft. While some accounts have been removed following inquiries, experts suggest that the inconsistent enforcement of hate speech policies creates a fertile environment for these predatory networks to exploit ideological divides for financial gain.
